This is a research project examining the savings behavior and
mobile phone usage of urban self employed and casual workers. Baseline and monthly/annual follow-up surveys of around 2200
urban self-employed and casual workers in 4 districts were carried out in this. The project involved liaison with mobile phone company,
bank and software development firm to develop a mobile phone based bank-savings
product. The mobile phone based banking product was rolled out to
mobilize savings among randomly selected respondents.
